Clinics
Family Planning And Cervical Smears
A full range of services is available including the fitting of coils, the
morning after pill and oral contraception. Pre-conceptual advice and rubella
(German measles) screening are also available. All women between the ages of
20 and 65 will be offered a cervical smear test in line with the current NHS
recommendations.
Maternity / Antenatal Clinics
The doctors provide maternity medical services and work closely with the community
midwife. Antenatal clinics are normally held on Thursday mornings.
Child Health And Immunisations
Developmental checks are carried out by the GPs usually on Friday mornings,
with the first immunisations being given by the practice nurses directly after.
Other immunisations are carried out by appointment with the practice nurses only
at our designated immunisation clinics.
Asthma, Diabetes And Coronary Heart Disease
Nurse-led clinics are offered on a weekly basis. Patients are invited to attend
for routine monitoring of their condition. Each clinic is supported by a nominated
GP.
Disease Prevention
Advice on smoking, alcohol, obesity, heart disease prevention and osteoporosis
is available from the practice nurse - please make an appointment at reception.
It is important that you understand all the information that is given to you.
Please ask questions if you are unsure of anything. We can provide a range of
health education leaflets, and we also have a number of health education videos
which are available to borrow.
Minor Injuries
Mayday's Accident and Emergency department provides a service at the Minor
Injuries Unit at Parkway Health Centre, New Addington for emergencies between
2.00pm and 10.00pm Monday to Friday and 12 noon to 10.00pm Saturday and Sunday.
The unit is staffed by experienced emergency nurse practitioners who have spent
several years in Accident and Emergency and have undertaken specific training.
They will treat adults and children with the following conditions: minor cuts
and grazes, minor burns and scalds, stings, sprains and strains. They can also
clean and dress wounds, insert and remove sutures, remove foreign bodies from
eyes and dispense specified medication including tetanus. At the Minor Injuries
Unit you will not have to queue behind seriously ill or injured patients, so
you may be treated more quickly than if you were to attend Accident and Emergency.
Influenza / pneumonia
Our practice nurses run flu clinics starting in September each year. We recommend
injections for all those over 65 or those with chronic medical conditions, such
as diabetes or heart and lung conditions. If appropriate, a pneumonia vaccination
will be offered at the same time.
Non-NHS Services
The doctors are prepared to carry out recognised medical services not covered
by the NHS. For these services the recommended BMA fee will be charged. A current
list of fees is displayed at our reception.
General Medical Services
Treatment Room Clinics
Experienced practice nurses are available in the treatment room for a wide
range of services, including advice, dressings, removal of sutures, ear syringing,
vaccinations and new patient medicals. We do offer a blood taking service on
Monday mornings. There is a walk-in phlebotomy service available at Mayday for
our mobile population, and the NHS Walk-in Centre in Croydon also provides a
phlebotomy service, Monday to Friday between 7.00 and 8.15am.
